What Makes Good Porn?

The other day, I responded to an ad on craigslist looking for adult models. I respond to a lot of these sorts of ads, and I sometimes get work from them. I owe the start of my career to craigslist, and I am always open to working for smaller outfits and people just starting out. I ignore the ads that seem like obvious bullshit, but I got my initial booking with Sweetheart Video via craigslist. I hooked up with MormonGirlz.com and PillowBook and many of the other awesome, indie, rewarding projects I have been a part of from Internet channels outside the usual porno pipeline.

I generally start my emails with "if you are shooting girl/girl" followed by a description of why I'm awesome and include some pictures. In this particular case, I closed my email with "PS I'm also available for nude non sex modeling or video, but not interested in boy/girl or solo masturbation. I only want to shoot sex on camera that turns me on."

Today, I got a response:

Just came across your email and I'm just writing because alot of people make this mistake: you said you only do porn that will turn you on.  Porn is a job and not here for sex, you work and you get paid and its not about you being pleased or him being pleased or whoever it's about the.customer and making them happy so they will continue to buy our product.  You stating as if you looking to get laid and having a party, again its a job.  Just putting it out there if you are serious in persuing a career I'm porn.  Alot of young male and females think this is or pleasure and fun, hopefully you'll get that but first and foremost this is a job and its unprofessional to say I'll only do this if it turns me on.  Everything has to be about the customer and.not you and if you looking to get.paid and get pleasure for yourself first, then good luck with your career choice.

Don't mean to sound too harsh just that I get emails like this everyday where people looking to party and looking for a good time.  We are professionals and we are looking for people who are serious in making a living and really want to establish themselves out to customers so they can have a future.

The spelling mistakes are in the original. I disagree profoundly with this approach to pornography. In fact, I think attitudes like this are why so much porn is awful. So I wrote a response.

Hey there,
Porn is, indeed, about the product. I firmly believe that...but I also believe the integrity of that product demands hiring talent who actually enjoy the work. Good porn isn't just someone's thing going into someone else's hole - it is a collaboration between talent and crew. The hottest porn is a record of real, hot, fucking.  With piracy at an all time high, and mountains of free porn on the Internet, why buy something that isn't good? Besides, shooting sex between disinterested partners is boring.
The women in porn who have long and rewarding careers are the women who know who the fuck they are...not women who just do whatever whether they like it or not because they need some cash. It's when porn becomes a record of your regret that it's a damaging experience. This industry closes a lot of fucking doors for girls...if it's not something you love, it's not a great choice. If you don't LOVE sex, if you don't live and breathe it, porn sucks. It's stupid to make a career of anything that doesn't speak to you. I don't need this job to get laid. I'm married and I have a long term girlfriend, and I have a lot of other lovers. What I bring to the table as a performer is a wealth of sexual experience and talent.
I don't need to be super attracted to my co-star. I know how to manufacture chemistry and connect with lots of different women whom I might not want to fuck if I wasn't getting paid...but that doesn't mean I want to have sex with someone I am (sexually) repulsed by, or go through the motions of touching myself when it does nothing for me. That makes for neither good porn nor a good life.
Cheers
Lily Cade
I really don't like it when people condescend to me.

  1. So glad you are standing up for women/lesbians and quality porn! I always thought that people who wrote to public figures telling them they changed their life had to be a at least a little nuts, but you have changed my life for the better and made every minute enjoyable too! You are so awesome, thank you for sharing!

  2. PS The person who responded to your email is obviously one who takes advantage of the talent and dupes the customers,!not recognizing that what you do is an art. I find it almost impossible to find any other porn to watch because you have set the bar so high.

  3. What is your professional opinion?
I posted an add on Craigslist just looking for work and was contacted by someone offering me a job in a film and was turned down because I have never been with a woman before… my thought was that offering that would make the film more realistic… but when I asked they never answered that email, whats your oppinion?
